Cremant de Loire - LaCheteau Brut NV

Staff Internal blind tasting event @ Weingut Heymann-Löwenstein

Weingut Lubentiushof - Gäns Riesling Alte Reben 2009 The winery is located in Niederfell, the German wine-growing region of Mosel. Found in 1711, when the former owners found no successor, the estate was taken over in 1994. Most of vineyards they are very steep with slate floors which can only be cultivated in pure manual work. There are 90% Riesling planted with consistently nearly natural viticulture practiced, for example without using of insecticides. Nevertheless, the fermentation is unusually slow in cooler temperature between 150 and 250 days and takes place with natural yeasts. “Alte Reben” - literally meaning for Old Vine in Germany. Appearance was turned into golden color after certain years aged. Fragrance emanated from the glass there were deep, honeyed and reminiscent of a basket of ripe Williams pear, persimmon & candied citrus fruit. It turned into a clean palate with gentle acidity but not bone-dry, many well-organized layers topped up its complexity with...

Tasting note : Camel Valley Brut 2013 , United Kingdom

Camel Valley Brut 2013 , United Kingdom Vineyards are situated on the sunny slopes above the River Camel - halfway between the Atlantic and Channel coasts. The area's mild climate, concentration of clear sunlight, and pure air give a distinctive fresh Cornish style. Blending grape varieties of Seyval, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, only the free run juice is used for the sparkling and made by Traditi onal method (Méthode Traditionnelle) with spent around 12 months on the lees. There is light gold color appearance with a core aroma of raisin stone fruits like apple & pear is supported by exotic coconut oil and vanilla, even more some honey touches. Yeasty, roasted nuts notes, creamy texture on the palate but it’s not heavy, mingles with succinct acidity ; Pleasant bubbles and racy leading to a satisfying finish with slightly bitterness. This is 1st time ever I’ve tasted English Fizz and it was a lovely experience. 3 years aging did enhanced its depth, soften mouth-f...

Tasting note : Battenfeld Spanier - HohenSülzen 2015

Battenfeld Spanier - HohenSülzen 2015 This is another bottle of German Riesling from a fully biodynamic winery which located in Rheinhessen zone.   Sat in old wine barrels, grapes are grew from old vines in Calcareous Soil and Spontaneous Fermentation.  The difference between the day and night temperatures are comparatively higher in HohenSülzen hence it helps grapes for its certain maturity but not loss freshness and elegance. Medium yellow color appearance. Matured fruit driven aromas like nectarine, sweet peach and fresh apricot   on the nose. However it goes reverse style when tasted on the palate : more tend to be herbaceous, earthy & slightly tobacco instead. Moderate creamy mouth feeling provide weight to avoid itself being not too watery with racy acidity and round up with decent length for finishing.     All in all, this wine just right to express the image of its terrior and village itself. For me it is g...

Tasting note : Internal Sparking wine tasting @ Weingut Heymann-Löwenstein

Internal sparkling wine tasting this evening. 6 bottles of Riesling Sekt & Blanc de Noir from different sweetness and blending. My favorite is the 2nd from the left : F. Curvee Riesling Sekt with 5 gram residual sugar 60/L and for my opinion sweetness is quite a vital part for German Wine.  Racy bubbles, pleasant fragrance with sweet fruity & floral notes on the nose. It grains complexities when  it's on the palate that nuttiness & buttery flavor can be picked up and round up with a little bitterness. The only drawback is that I think if it's acidity can be slightly enhanced, it could be a great sparkling wine that capable to spend a whole afternoon with me under the sun shining day. Tasted on last Friday evening ,  21 Feb 2017 Producer Website :   http://www.hlweb.de/ Please feel free to follow me if you like my tasting note or wine Instagram :  https://www.instagram.com/derekc_c/
