Tasting note : Heymann-Löwenstein - Schieferterrassen Riesling 2015

Heymann-Löwenstein - Schieferterrassen Riesling 2015 Grown on Slate Stone compounded soil & on the steep slopes in Winningen - Mosel region in Germany, “Schieferterrassen” is blended from various vineyards in Winningen & Kobern, mixed up with different kinds of Slate as well as declassified from Grand Cru - Grosses Gewachs. And in the cellar, leaving the juice about 24 to 48 hours skin contact before fermenting close to full dryness , winemaker chose to add 10 to 20% botrytis fruit to his dry wines. Pale Straw color shown in the glass. Generous flood of fragrance aromas which are honeyed, ripe stone fruit, citrus  peel and a hints of honeysuckle floral notes. One the palate there are very fine nuances in between fruit and minerals ; Moderate acidity with well balanced sweetness by residual sugar and medium body ; Refreshing mouth feeling, smoky & wet stone character can be found too and it came with sweetly finish at the end.  In conclusion,...

Tasting note : Battenfeld Spanier - HohenSülzen 2015

Battenfeld Spanier - HohenSülzen 2015 This is another bottle of German Riesling from a fully biodynamic winery which located in Rheinhessen zone.   Sat in old wine barrels, grapes are grew from old vines in Calcareous Soil and Spontaneous Fermentation.  The difference between the day and night temperatures are comparatively higher in HohenSülzen hence it helps grapes for its certain maturity but not loss freshness and elegance. Medium yellow color appearance. Matured fruit driven aromas like nectarine, sweet peach and fresh apricot   on the nose. However it goes reverse style when tasted on the palate : more tend to be herbaceous, earthy & slightly tobacco instead. Moderate creamy mouth feeling provide weight to avoid itself being not too watery with racy acidity and round up with decent length for finishing.     All in all, this wine just right to express the image of its terrior and village itself. For me it is g...

Tasting note : Internal Sparking wine tasting @ Weingut Heymann-Löwenstein

Internal sparkling wine tasting this evening. 6 bottles of Riesling Sekt & Blanc de Noir from different sweetness and blending. My favorite is the 2nd from the left : F. Curvee Riesling Sekt with 5 gram residual sugar 60/L and for my opinion sweetness is quite a vital part for German Wine.  Racy bubbles, pleasant fragrance with sweet fruity & floral notes on the nose. It grains complexities when  it's on the palate that nuttiness & buttery flavor can be picked up and round up with a little bitterness. The only drawback is that I think if it's acidity can be slightly enhanced, it could be a great sparkling wine that capable to spend a whole afternoon with me under the sun shining day. Tasting note : Pundel vins purs, Crémant de Luxembourg, Riesling Brut

Pundel vins purs , Crémant de Luxembourg , Riesling Brut A sparkling wine from Luxembourg's Moselle district made according to the traditional method ( Méthode Traditionnelle ) : Second Fermentation was done in the bottle and at least 9 months for maturation. And , Luxembourg is the only country entitled to use the term of “ Crémant" outside France. With a clear yellow-green hue , fruity notes picked up on the nose like pear and green apple when first smell. Its good activeness of bubbles with youthful vigour that I was quite surprise. Yeasty and nutty notes can be found on palate which enhanced its depth. Moderate acidity and seems there were certain amount of residual sugar left. Will be better if its finish can be last a bit longer. In general this is a good sparkling wine as starter , toasting or even party wine goes with canapés. Refreshing , easy to drink and affordable price. It keeps well as a white wine even if bubbles ran out. Wou...

Tasting note : Weingut Kühling-Gillot - Nackenheim 2015, Germany

A bottle of Riesling from a fully biodynamic winery which located in Rheinhessen zone. They share a commitment to leaving a legacy of healthy soil and great wines. Clear and pure yellow color in the glass. It is youthful on the nose. Able to pick up mineral  related notes I think it should thanks for its signature Red Slate soil covered on the vineyard  which located in the steep slopes of the riverside ; Besides , there are stone fruit notes like  white peach & apricot also hints of floral , although those are a little bit restrained that seems  more stoney than fruity. The living acidity on the palate which is typical for good quality Riesling  grapes bring up the whole picture to next level with decent finish. It ’ s just right about 12% Alc  for me. Not a bone dry wine contain medium body , slightly creamy texture , refreshing with elegancy. Overall , this is a good Ortswein ( Village wine ) from Germany with affordable and reas...
